He attacked her before evading capture
Synopsis
Delia Ballmer, a nurse at the agency, met with Sweeney, who confessed to killing his ex-girlfriend.
Based on a true crime story
Ballmer rebuilt her life to confront Sweeney seven years later after he was arrested for another murder.
Levels were thrown into canals in Rotterdam (not Amsterdam) and London
Not only is it a gripping, uncomfortable drama, almost unique in that it doesn’t try to use hateful violence for entertainment, but it’s also an indictment of a justice system where everyone involved is clearly at risk of seeing the victim as a means to end a career.
The viewer is also forced to confront their expectations of a real crime victim
The police want a conviction and the criminal is the target and the victim is just the ammunition to achieve that target; a passive cipher is best forgotten unless it becomes useful again.
Delia Ballmer/Ann Maxwell Martin defies this convention, and the syrup-free drama is all the better for showing the victim in all her glory
They are usually sensitive and rather passive people who lack self-confidence and are often conventionally attractive, as film and television producers try to manipulate the empathy of their viewers by any means at their disposal.
